Krones' digital direct printing machine ready for industrial use

PKBR Staff Writer Published 13 September 2017

Filling and packaging technologies manufacturer Krones said at this year’s drinktec event in Germany it will show how direct printing unlocks new options for beverage producers.

The event is being held from 11 to 15 September in Munich.

The company's DecoType Select machine can be used to print on both special-shaped and cylindrical containers made of PET, HDPE and glass.

The machine also holds capacity to handle metal containers and other plastics such as PP that are currently under preparation.

DecoType Select allows to selectively apply direct printing to grooved and relief structures. It helps to create advanced 3D effects on the packaging or simulate the look of different materials.

The machine’s print height of up to 205mm provides enough space to accommodate detailed textual information on the packaging, in addition to elaborating designs.

In July, the company announced that it will showcase its advanced packaging solutions at this year’s drinktec event in Germany.

The firm said that it will exhibit high-speed line for filling bottles with beer, as part of its beverages and liquid food product portfolio.

Krones’ pilot line is also being exhibited at the event. The line includes a combination of filler, direct printing machine and intelligent conveyors, which will be used to effectively produce even small batch sizes, while retaining maximised flexibility.

In May this year, Krones acquired US-based firm Javlyn, which produces automated processing systems for the food, beverage, dairy, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
